Rattan is the name for approximately 600 species of palms. Most Rattans differ from other palms though by not being trees but vines. Rattan is native to most tropical countries throughout the world. It is abundant partially due to the fact that it grows fast. Both, the vine and the peel, are used for weaving thanks to its relative flexibility.
Hapao style refers to the technique of alternating the color from a light natural to dark mocca when weaving the rattan peel over the rattan vine. The vine is the tubular core of the weave while the split is wrapped around it.
