Designers get very excited about working on a powder room. Why? It’s the smallest room in the house, surely it must be less important than, say, a living room. Well, it turns out that many clients will be fairly conservative when considering the style options for a main room in the house whereas they are willing to take risks with a powder room.
Risk often equates fun.
In my last post I took a look at mirrors, and the many ways that designers like to play with them. This time, let’s take a look at some of the approaches that designers take when they are considering how to create a big impact in a small space.
– A simple approach: paint.
– A statement mirror can literally create the entire room.
– For those of us who want to make a quick change in our own homes, flowers are the way to go.
– Never underestimate the power of a light fixture.
– Starting from the ground-up? It’s literally just a question of taste.
Okay, so what do these strategies look like in the hands of a designer? Let’s take a tour.
These designers are making brave choices with paint and I love the result. The stripes create a strong statement that feels contemporary yet fun. A saturated color, like the blue below.
I love the powerful presence of an amazing mirror. If you simply make the choice to not go with a rectangle then check out how unique it makes your powder room feel.
This is a simple one: keep fresh flowers in your powder room. Immediately you get the sense of the care and attention paid to detail – not to mention the charm of something living.
A large-scale light fixture in a small-scale space is a favorite trick for designers to generate excitement as soon as you open the door. I utterly adore the capiz chandelier from kouboo.com for exactly this kind of thing.
